Alex Goodall: Five Years at Hunter Bond

This month marks a major milestone for one of our highest-performing team members: Alex Goodall, who celebrates five years at Hunter Bond.

Alex joined us in 2020 as an Associate Recruiter, our entry-level role, at the height of the pandemic. His potential and mindset stood out from the start, and he’s never looked back.

Over the last five years, Alex has risen through the ranks to become an Associate Director, leading a high-performing global technology recruitment team. His focus has always been on sourcing world-class talent for some of the most complex and competitive markets out there: development and infrastructure roles within hedge funds and quant trading firms.

Alongside his remarkable billing record, Alex is known for his deep technical understanding, unshakeable work ethic, and ability to identify talent that others overlook. He’s built a reputation not just as a top recruiter but as a trusted partner to clients navigating one of the most dynamic hiring landscapes in the world.

To mark his five-year anniversary, we sat down with Alex to reflect on his journey so far.

What made you decide to join the business back then?

Alex: Honestly, it was pure luck! It was during the height of COVID, and I’d recently moved to London, looking for my next role in recruitment.

Hunter Bond took a real chance on me - I’d never worked in their market before, or anything quite so demanding. But I landed an interview and took it from there.

What really appealed to me was the autonomy, the steep learning curve, and the genuinely uncapped earning potential. It felt like a place where I could take full ownership of my career.

How has your role evolved since you started?

Alex: I actually started fully remotely and didn’t step into the office until about nine months in.

Since then, I’ve built and grown a global technology team where everyone shares the same drive, talent, and collaborative mindset.

I really enjoy leading people who are motivated enough to lead themselves. It creates an environment where everyone is pushing each other to succeed.

What have been some standout moments in your 5-year journey?

Alex: It might sound small now, but my first deal in this market was a huge moment. It gave me the belief that I could actually do this and build a career out of it.

Other standouts include being top biller in 2021 (my first full year), again in 2022 (with my first trainee coming in second), and referring the 2024 and 2025 top biller to the business. Those moments really meant a lot.

What’s the best feedback you’ve received from a client or candidate?

Alex: One of the best parts of working at Hunter Bond is that we place people in genuinely life-changing roles.

Some of the most meaningful feedback has come from candidates who took a leap, sometimes into roles they initially saw as a risk, and came back months later to say how grateful they were. That kind of impact is what it’s all about.

What trends in tech or the tech hiring space are you most excited about right now?

Alex: Definitely the rise of functional programming, Rust in particular. There’s also some really interesting custom compiler work happening in the quant space that could lead to big innovation.

That said, my original market (and still favourite) area is high-performance computing and the infrastructure side. It’s always evolving, and it’s exciting to see what’s next.

What’s next for you at Hunter Bond?

Alex: Honestly, I’m not sure yet, but I’m excited to find out. Hopefully, it involves growing alongside the business and seeing just how far we can take it. It’s an ambitious company, driven by people who genuinely want to succeed.

From making his first deal during lockdown to building one of the most successful teams in the company, Alex’s trajectory is a masterclass in resilience, growth and leadership.
